Project Pain | Thrashed To Kill (album review) ★★★☆☆

On April 30, 2015 the Dutch thrash metal band Project Pain released their second album ‘Thrashed To Kill’. The band is founded in 2011 in Amersfoort and released the EP ‘Hatred’ and their debut album ‘I Have Sinned’ since then. After the releases the band grew and played in many cities in Holland. They even climbed the stage for the Metal Battle in Utrecht.

The album is, just like the EP and debut album, released by themselves. From the beginning the typical thrash sound is kicking in, starting at the first song ‘Betrayal’. The up-tempo guitar riffs and drums sound like the old-school thrash metal as we like it. Also with the second song, ‘Necrophiliac’, Project Pain takes us back to the thrash metal of the 80s. The hoarse voice of Bauke Goudbeek is very clear. The lyrics are however a bit easy and maybe a bit predictable. The verse contains only ‘necrophiliac’. Maybe they should have add some words to make the song stronger.

With Zero Tolerance, the fourth song of the album, they show us what they’re really made of. This song is a pure up-tempo song, which could let the crowd mosh automatically. With this song they caught the attention of the audience completely. Guitar, drum and vocals are balanced perfectly.

Flatline Invasion, the seventh song, is a calmer song than Zero Tolerance. Multiple technics are showed. High and low voice, up-tempo and calm riffs: they’re all represented in this song. This makes the song a little messy, but this fits with the thrashscene. The last song of the album is Taken By Force. With this song they end the album in style. It’s a cooperation between a lot of guitar riffs, drums and a hoarse voice. The drums are a little hasty, which could give the audience a lot of energy during a show. Definitely a good last song for Thrashed To Kill.

Conclusion
In the beginning I needed to get used to the sound of Project Pain. But after listening to the album a second time it became clear that the band made an amazing album for true thrash lovers. The band could be proud of what they accomplished.
