The Dutch black metal band Cirith Gorgor was founded in 1996 and already released five full length albums and a bunch of EP’s. In 2016 they came up with their sixth full length album called ‘Visions Of Exalted Lucifer’. A 7-track album released by Hammerheart Records.
I remember seeing Cirith Gorgor for the first time in the Bat Cave, Tilburg a long time ago. Back then I really digged that band and even got the demo tape ‘Mystic Legends…’, released in 1997. After that I didn’t follow the band anymore. Till last year! They played at ‘The Black Ritual Fest’ in Little Devil, Tilburg. The show was massive and so the album is. The album kicks off furious and reminds me straight away of Dark Funeral and Emperor. All the songs are filled with variety and the production is of high quality.
All the elements are nice to listen to and the sound is very good. The third song on the album is the one that got my attention most, because the female (guest) vocals are giving it a very sick and dark feeling. It explodes in agony! The guitar riffs are typical 90s black metal and the drums are filled with blasts and progressive elements. Like I said, Cirith Gorgor is active since 1996, but their music has proceeded in a very good and positive way. This band has always been underground in my opinion, but this new album brings it to a totally different and higher level.
Short conclusion about this album: Cirith Gorgor is a band that has always been true to the black metal and if you like well produced, evil and dark black metal, then you are going to enjoy this album! Recommended for fans of Emperor, old Satyricon and Dark Funeral.
