When Volbeat took the stage at Ziggo Dome inAmsterdam on 23 September as part of their Greatest of All Tours Worldwide, expectations were high. They kicked things off with The Devil’s Bleeding Crown, a thunderous opener that set the tone for the night. From there, the band guided the crowd through a carefully balanced set that mixed beloved classics with daring new material. Pics by Jason Beun.
The energy in the arena surged when Lola Montez rang out, with the audience’s voices almost drowning out Michael Poulsen’s as thousands sang along. Sad Man’s Tongue continued that momentum, reminding everyone how seamlessly Volbeat can blend rockabilly swagger with metal grit. Later in the evening, Shotgun Blues reignited the crowd with heavier grooves, while Fallen offered one of the night’s most emotional moments as Poulsen dedicated the song to his late father, bringing a sense of intimacy that contrasted beautifully with the roaring atmosphere of the dome.

Volbeat also used the night to showcase new songs. Demonic Depression made its live debut, its intensity fitting perfectly into the set, while the ambitious and theatrically titled In the Barn of the Goat Giving Birth to Satan’s Spawn in a Dying World of Doom added an element of surprise and spectacle. These bold choices demonstrated the band’s willingness to evolve without losing touch with the essence of their sound.

The production amplified every note. Shifting from aggressive bursts of light during the heavier tracks to moody tones for more reflective pieces, the stage design gave the music an even deeper impact. That visual energy fused seamlessly with the crowd’s passion. During Still Counting, children from the audience were invited to join the band on stage, turning a raucous anthem into a heartwarming communal moment. The show eventually closed in a blaze of energy with A Warrior’s Call flowing into Pool of Booze, Booze, Booza, leaving the hall vibrating with adrenaline.

More than just a concert, the evening was a reminder of the duality at the heart of Volbeat: fierce riffs and pounding rhythms paired with warmth, humor, and genuine connection. The Ziggo Dome show was not only a showcase of their greatest hits but also a statement of where the band is headed. For fans, it was a night to remember — for Volbeat, it was another chapter in a journey that keeps growing louder, bolder, and more heartfelt.
